A trip down the Hozu River that winds through a steep gorge.
Hozugawa Kudari is a thrilling boat ride that takes about 2 hours to travel down a 16km mountain stream from Tanba-Kameoka to Arashiyama, a scenic spot in Kyoto.
A skilled boatman steers the boat with the pole, rudder, and oar as it weaves through the rocks. There are usually three boatmen, but depending on the wind and water volume, there may be four or five people. The sound of birds chirping and the sound of paddles echoing through the Hozu Valley throughout the four seasons, as well as the unique landscapes, can only be experienced by cruising down the Hozu River.
